Day 24

Picture from the day 24 LinkedIn post

What is an API?

Here's what I've understood so far.

1. An API lets two applications communicate with each other.
Instead of building everything from scratch, one application can request data or services from another.

2. Think of an API like a waiter in a restaurant.
You place an order.
The waiter takes your request to the kitchen.
The kitchen prepares the food.
The waiter brings the response back.
The waiter acts as the bridge between you and the kitchen.

3. APIs are already part of our everyday lives.
When you->
Log in with Google
Pay with PayPal
Check the weather
Book an Uber

Different applications are communicating through APIs behind the scenes.
