Day 19

Picture from the day 19 LinkedIn post

Today I learned: HTML is becoming the new Markdown.

Day 19 of 1% Better.

Markdown is winning because it makes writing simple: plain text, readable by anyone, easy to share.

1. Markdown was built for humans reading raw text: great for flat paragraphs and lists, nothing more.

2. HTML was always richer, but felt too heavy to hand-write: until agents started writing it for us.

3. The browser is now a shared runtime: humans see structure and visuals, agents read the same DOM as structured data.
↳ No separate "human version."
↳ No separate "machine version."
↳ No translation layer in between.

What this changes for me: I stopped asking AI agents for plans as walls of text and started asking for a page instead, same content, but scannable, structured, and just as easy for an agent to parse back.

The best format isn’t the one only humans can read, or only machines can parse. It’s the one both can use without translation.

Where are you still writing docs your tools can't actually understand?
