Day 26

Can machines really think?

Today, I explored a question that sounds simple but is surprisingly difficult.

At first, I thought the answer might be yes.

AI can answer questions, solve problems, create plans, and generate ideas. These behaviours can look like thinking.

But does producing an intelligent response mean the machine truly understands it?

If thinking means processing information and solving problems, machines can perform some forms of thinking.

But if thinking requires consciousness, emotions, self-awareness, or a human-like understanding of the world, the answer is still unclear.

My takeaway:
Machines can perform tasks that appear to require thought, but whether they genuinely think depends on how we define thinking.
